Wetherby Whaler

The Wetherby Whaler.

I had

The batter was lovely and crisp, the chips fresh and flavoursome. I'm pleased to say that they use beef fat in the Wetherby Whaler in Wakefield as opposed to transfatty rapeseed oil or Trex. This is the regular haddock. Also available is the Large and the "Whaler", a battered fish of gargantuan proportions but I suspect it is actually two fishes carefully dipped into the batter mix.

For pudding I had

Brandy snap surprise - Brandysnaps, cream, icecream and butterscotch sauce.

The resturant is comfortable but a take away service is also available for those who don't fancy the hour long queue which sometimes awaits those that do not pre-book. The staff are lovely, very smiley and clean.

Marks out of ten?

Cleanliness 9/10
Service & Staff 9/10
Food 8/10 (The Magpie in Whitby has much fresher fish)

the fish needs to be bigger and there should be more chips and the bits and mushy peas are missing and ther should be tartar sauce there with it but aside from that, it looks good.

That desert has captivated me.
This was the girly small portion. The larger fish is significantly larger. Peas, beans and coleslaw all arrive in separate dishes. Tartar sauce is available in the condiments tray.

The dessert is hypnotic. There are 3 variations on this: Cherry surprise, Mandarin surprise and Strawberry surprise. The mandarin surprise works well too
I made similar noises
